Sometimes, for a single day’s pleasure—or through unguarded mingling, or the lure of a business success, a title, applause, or public praise—their defenses collapse. The grand goal dissolves; faith is shaken; righteous deeds dry up; sincerity fades; the consciousness of Divine nearness vanishes; and the love and the yearning for the reunion with God is utterly forgotten. Thus, their spiritual immunity—the immune system of the soul—fails.”⁸⁾
